Students at the 5th – 8th grade level are scoring at very low levels in the area of measurement. Measurement is one of the five standards of mathematics education identified by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The results of the NWEA MAP report indicated that 6th and 7th grade scores in measurement were very low. In 8th grade the ND State Assessment showed that scores in the following two areas of measurement were very low: using formulas involving measurement and selecting the appropriate units to estimate measure. Scores on the ND State Assessment for using formulas in measurement were as follows: State 54%; Simle Middle School 52%; and Bismarck Public Schools 53%. The 8th grade scores on the ND State Assessment for selecting the appropriate units to estimate measure were 59% in all areas.
